Probably accomplishing goals. There are many aspects to skateboarding like building a ramp, entering a contest, riding down a hill, learning tricks etc...I first skated back in the mid 70's and it has always been fun. With accomplishing goals come progression, we have progressed from the janky 4' wide ramps on our parents driveways to Mega Ramps...in between everybody ends up riding the way they do because of what they have been exposed to.
Young kids are ripping, I hope they take the time to learn there roots.
In a word, skateboarding means to me, Progression
Kids, if you want to freak an old guy out learn to spin some 360's or do an original kickflip, at the very least it's worth a letter in a game of skate.
my wife and i are coming all the way from turkey, granted... we are from the states originally but, it means enough to come that far for such a great experience as the Maloof Cup..
skateboarding has gotten really popular recently here in istanbul, although it is still rather expensive...
sk8ing means alot to me... a good character trait it helps develop is perserverence... for example, getting back up after taking a spill... AGAIN AND AGAIN...
to me skateboarding is jus my time away from everyone else. its fun , i get out of my house, and i get to chill with my friends while im sk8tn. and when i land a new trick the feeling is amazing. its like motavation to me every time i fall it makes me work harder and when i finally get the trick i start on a new one
Skate boarding is a great way for kids (and grown kids a like) to express themselves and strive to improve themselves. All skateboarders just keep getting better sand the tricks get cooler and bigger. I love to watch skateboarding and watch a young kid grasp a trick after a hundred tries, the sense of accomplishment, is priceless.
to me, skateboarding is.... teaching my kids that they don't have to be little "cookie cutter" kids. Skateboarding allows them the freedom to choose who they want to be their friends, allows them to express their emotions through their style of skating and most important. it allows them to find personal joy and community in the sport they love.
